NUS Musollahs



NUS Musollahs is a secondary committee under NUSMS aimed primarily at maintaining the prayer spaces in NUS.


Additionally, NUS Musollahs organises mass cleanups over the winter and summer breaks as a platform for the NUS Muslim community to be physically involved in maintaining the prayer spaces, in hopes that it will inculcate a sense of shared accountability for these shared spaces.​

WHAT IS THE MAIN DIRECTION OF NUS MUSOLLAHS?



NUS Musollahs' values are centered around the idea of Back to Basics,

where we hope to promote the core values and tenets of Islam to the Muslim community, whilst also providing a comfortable space for people to do their 'ibaadah to Allah s.w.t.



HOW MANY MUSOLLAHS ARE THERE IN NUS?



As of the end of AY 22/23, there are 20 musollahs across the NUS campus.

A Reconnecting Muslim’s Guide: Du’as & Supplications



A compilation of du’as and supplications commonly recited by local asatizahs and Imams, this online booklet serves as an easy guide for musollah users to browse through and recite after prayers. Spearheaded by one of our NUS Musollahs committee member, Brother Adli, it was initiated as an extension to the supplications poster that can be found on the musollah walls across campus.


The booklet is a fairly comprehensive one, containing the Arabic wordings of the supplications, together with the respective transliterations and English translations. This booklet can be accessed via the supplications poster found at all musollahs across campus via a QR code. Having said that, this booklet can be publicised and shared more extensively in the future to reach out to the wider community for the benefit of all.



Fortnightly Musollah Cleanups



Musollah cleanups were scheduled on a fortnightly basis, where members of the NUS Musollahs committee will be in charge of cleaning up the prayer spaces allocated to them. With an increased number of active members within the NUS Musollahs committee, this system could be implemented and maintained throughout the academic year, thus ensuring that all prayer spaces were consistently looked after.


A checklist application was created containing a list of things to perform when committee members are doing their respective cleanups, as well as a section where they can note down any major damages or issues at their allocated prayer spaces. All information will be automatically collated on a spreadsheet for internal reference, and follow-up actions will be taken to rectify these issues.



Winter Mass Cleanup



The winter mass cleanup was organised primarily to refurbish the prayer spaces on campus, and to standardise the conditions of all these prayer spaces. Additionally, it also served as a platform to involve the NUS Muslim community in the maintenance of these shared spaces. An initiative that was carried out as part of the winter mass cleanup was the designing and putting up of new musollah posters.


These posters contain a variety of information regarding matters related to these prayer spaces, such as dos and don’ts at musollahs, a compilation of supplications as well as access to various links and sites related to NUS Musollahs (e.g. feedback form and Instagram page).


Bonding activities, were also planned out for the committee members and volunteers to get to know one another, forging new bonds and friendships within the NUS Muslim community.

Summer Mass Cleanup



Similar to the winter mass cleanup, volunteers and committee members worked hand in hand to refurbish the prayer spaces in campus. However, the main focus of the summer mass cleanup was on repairing musollahs with damaged flooring, as well as resolving any damages or issues identified.


The NUS Musollahs committee conducted a recce of all the musollahs beforehand to have a general sensing of the conditions of each musollah and any damages that needed rectification. Upon gathering of data, follow up actions were then proposed. These solutions were unique to each musollah in order to rectify the issues within the musollah itself.



Masjid Musollah Cleanup CIP



In March 2023, the committee organised a CIP, a first for our committee. We partnered up with mosques that are near our campus which are Masjid Darussalam and Masjid Ahmad. The full day event allowed the NUS Muslim community to give back to the mosque and at the same time use this platform to bond with members within the Muslim community and also allows us to better understand the operations of our religous instituitions. This event was the perfect opportunity for us to apply our objectives beyond the campus environment



NUS X NTU Musollah Exchange



The NUS Musollahs Team was blessed with the opportunity to meet the NTUMS Assets Team, who oversees the musollahs in NTU. We were able to exchange knowledge and tips on the best practices to manage our musollahs, as well as gain a deeper understanding on the needs of Muslim students across the Institutes of Higher Learning in Singapore.
