Muslimah Night 2012 –
Self Discovery & Sisterhood, A Midsummer Spectrum
“And hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do not become divided. And remember the favour of Allah upon you – when you were enemies and He brought your hearts together and you became, by His favour, you became brethren. And you were on the edge of a pit of the Fire, and He saved you from it. Thus does Allah make clear to you His verses that you may be guided.”
(The Noble Quran 3:103)
Assalamualaikum dear brothers and sisters,
Alhamdulillah wa syukurillah, all praises to the Almighty Allah for His guidance and strength, for without which Muslimah Night 2012 – Girls in a Midsummer Spectrum would not have been a success.
Our committee was formed way back in March 2012 and it was not easy planning an all girls event, juggling with school work and exams at the same time. But the experience working together as a committee full of girls was definitely a worthy experience. Despite coming from different backgrounds and beginning as strangers to each other; we unite together by having a similar goal in mind; Lillahi ta’ala – For the sake of Allah swt.
Our main objective for this event is Self-Discovery and Sisterhood. Before defining what it is all about, we first met and discussed together what sisterhood really means to all us. What is the significance of ukhuwaah in our lives? We had several meetings and bonding session that prove not only for the good of the event but it also benefits us all as it assisted us in developing and understanding the real meaning of ukhuwaah or sisterhood. It teaches us not only the importance of working together as a team, but also to love each and every of the sisters, in the name of our Creator.
Come 26 May, the day the sisters have been waiting for. The committee gathered as early as 3pm to set up the venue and to prepare the door gifts. As soon as the clock hit 6pm, beautiful ladies dressed in pastel dresses, skirts and tops started streaming into the room located in University Town in National University of Singapore. Each of them received a goodie bag consisting of notebook, book mark, books, pamphlets, pen, cookies and sejadah (prayer mat). In addition, they got a coupon which entitled them to a free polaroid photo.
The emcees for the day were Faizah Abdullah and Fadhilah Zamawi. The guests were entertained by their jokes and it was only laughter that filled the air. They played some ice breaking games after dinner and we perfomed the maghrib prayer led by Ustazah Susila who also shared with us the significance of surahs that is related to women and ukhuwaah. Following that was an eye-opener experience shared by Sis Nurul Azyan on self-discovery. After that, we had Ustazah Azrinah to share with us on what sisterhood is really all about. It was definitely a meaningful talk by our two special speakers!
We hoped that the event has not only allowed us to make new friends but to also strengthen the ukhuwaah among the sisters. After the event, we pray that every of the sisters and also the committee members will develop to become better Muslimahs in the future, insyaAllah.
