Assalamu’alaikum wr. wb.

Alhamdulillah. All praises be to Allah who, with His mercy and kindness, ensured that the NUSMS Night Cycling Committee 2013 was able to plan and execute the event well. The theme for this year’s Night Cycling event was “Awaken your Senses”, aimed at allowing participants to Discover, Appreciate and Reflect on their senses while enduring the journey as they immerse themselves in the beauty and serenity of this nature created by the Almighty. As the event this year was a collaboration with Al-Istighfar Mosque, we would like to express our deepest gratitude to its management committee and youth wing, Wildan, for all their help.

Planning for the event began as far back as half a year ago. When the committee was first formed, most of us were strangers to each other, coming from different background and faculties but all with the common goal of organising the annual Night Cycling for the community and for the sake of Allah s.w.t. The teamwork and commitment each and every committee member put in was certainly commendable. Despite being the first time for most of us in organising such an event, we were dedicated in organising the best Night Cycling event that NUSMS has ever had. Throughout the planning process, all of us have gained memorable experiences and valuable lessons that we could learn to become a better khalifah, InShaAllah.

On the event day, we faced many obstacles and challenges as we were greeted by light rain in the afternoon and an unforeseen issue with the second mosque we collaborated with called for a change in the route and endpoint of our event. We were very worried but we placed our trust in the Almighty hoping that all our hard work for the past half a year would not go to waste. We were determined to not disappoint the hundreds of participants who have signed up and looked forward to this day. With God’s grace and guidance, we were able to reroute the event and prepare for all the changes just a few hours before it began.

The journey from the mosque, around Punggol Park and back to the mosque covers about 31 kilometres. Though the figure may seem daunting, everyone was able to cycle leisurely and enjoy the night breeze. Participants bonded as a group through the activities planned along the route and at the same time discovering and appreciating their senses more.

All in all, we felt that Al Yaqzhah was a success and the night went very smoothly despite the challenges we faced. It was warmly welcomed by the public and students of NUS who participated in the event and had faith in us for a successful event. We would like to say a big thank you to all participants, facilitators and volunteers for the event would not have been possible without all of you.

The organising committee hopes that everyone enjoyed the event as much as we did, had a memorable experience and built meaningful relationships with each other. If you wish to view more photos of the event, do visit our Facebook page & Blog.

Jazakumullah Kheir. May Allah bless all of you.
