NUS Muslim Society presents another night of revelry for our beautiful sisters in Islam, a night of introspection, self-discovery, and sisterhood.
Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) صل said, “You will not enter Paradise until you believe and you will not believe until you love each other. Shall I show you something that, if you did, you would love each other? Spread peace between yourselves.” [Sahih Muslim]
Girls’ Night In: A Midsummer Spectrum aims to bring together NUS Muslimahs of all backgrounds, bound by our common faith. The event hopes to provide to create an intellectually stimulating, intimate and emotional environment where our sisters in Islam are comfortable in sharing their thoughts and feelings with one another. We also hope to help our sisters address issues faced in the modern world.
With the theme of Sisterhood & Self-Discovery, we wish to provide the chance for sisters to not only learn more about themselves as individuals, but also their place in the brethren of Muslim sisters, and the wider community. We recognised the need for Muslim women to come together as a whole community and appreciate Islamic teachings. As female Muslims strive to gain knowledge about their religion and endeavours to increase their faith, there is one important issue that is often neglected which is Sisterhood in Islam.
For this year’s event, it will be held on the evening of 12th May 2012. There will be 2 distinguished speakers who will be giving motivational speeches to the participants, Ustazah Mariam Alias and Sister Nisha Mohd Rafiq. Our programme also includes fun games and discussion sessions where sisters get to bond and interact with one another.
The finale of our event is the Qiyam that will be conducted after the event. During the day numerous affairs occupy the time and mind of the human being. In the midst of all this preoccupation, it is difficult to have the peace of mind and heart so necessary for good worship. But at night when it is dark and silent, when the demands of the material world are quiet for a while, the human being can acquire a tranquil state which allows him to be in harmony with his Creator.
